Photo Voices features four projects in Birmingham aiming to empower misrepresented and invisible communities around the world.

The photography exhibition introduces four different projects where people from underrepresented communities highlight issues that touch them.

Nick Danzinger, photojournalist, said:

“Photography is a very powerful tool for communication that provides an outlook on issues that are not always easy to talk about”

“Poverty conflict prejudice and disability leave so many people without a voice”

See it our way exposes the story of young people affected by human trafficking in the Middle East and Eastern Europe.

How we see it and Look out London are two projects that show a collection of photographs realised by young people. They show themselves through photography and dispute stereotypes that affect them every day in the city of London.

Challenging the negative image conveyed in the mainstream media they also explore gang culture and crime knifes in response to David Cameron speech on ‘declaring war on gangs’ during the rioting in August 2011.

S. Ramesh, photographer, said:

“I have learnt the camera is a weapon it’s powerful, I have learnt how to use it carefully”

Sight unseen and UR in the picture show the Sensory Photography of a group of blind, visually impaired people and people suffering from mental health.

The exhibition will be held until 11th November from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm at Fountain Court Steel House in Birmingham.
